There's lots of check-cashing services around. Check the Yellow Pages in your area. Typically, they charge between 3% and 5% of the check amount. You may need some form of ID.

they usually charge in the 15-20% range of the check and are all but a scam in that way. don't you have a friend with an account you can sign the check over to and have him/her cash it? it'd save you a lot of money vs the check cashing shops...
some stores will cash certain checks (nonpersonal checks) if you buy stuff from them too...

I work at a grocery store. They cash checks at customer service, you may need to show ID but I don't think they charge anything. I don't know how it works where you live though.

Oh, ok the solution may be simple then ... see if your work will cash it - if not, sign it over to a friend like Del suggested and get the cash that way.
Check cashing places are another option if you need money asap and don't mind getting like only $120 or whatever - payroll checks are usually a cinch for them.
