Such are the shortcomings of the oversimplistic left-right spectrum. Judging by your description, onwardthroughthefog, you would belong in the lower-right quadrant of the Political Compass, that is, you believe in conservative economic policies but libertarian social policies. Not sure about the quadrants, but regardless of which quadrant a person is in, I'd rather he or she be up front and a stand up kind of person than someone who never has grown up enough to have enough knowledge on subjects to have intelligent opinions. By the way, I wasn't referring to you, as your reply was well written and intelligent.

I took one of those profiles on here a few weeks ago, and it said that I fall next to Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. I suppose on some issues that's pretty accurate. I just don't think I'm easily pidgeon holed on all issues. My views on people who molest or harm children, are sexual predators, or are serial killers are about as right wing as they can be.

Unless someone is deliberately hurting me, someone I know or love, or society in general, I get along with most people pretty well, regardless of their religious affiliation, political views, or social status.

Here's my philosophy in a nutshell.....some folks see a glass as half empty, while others see it as half full. I just want to know who the hell stole half of my drink!!!!!!!!!!!!

When folks use alot of profanity on-line,I tend to discount what they say and their credibility goes way down,in my estimation. I wasn't raised to talk to folks that way and it puzzles me somewhat,when they do treat others like that. To me,it's a sign of a not very good character..or at least,a somewhat shallow character. But I'm probably wrong..and it's just my raising and my own hang-ups,that git in the way..Lord knows that I gotta lot of hang-ups ! lol

Just thought I'd share a personal insight. Though I've never met Torog in person, I have found him to be very, very friendly and easy to converse with on here. He and I have differing views on politics and government, but those differences are more due to personal experiences than either of us being "right" or "wrong". If he and I were to spend an afternoon cane pole fishing for crappie in a local lake, I imagine he and I would have numerous things we agree on to talk about.

Some of you would consider me to be a left-leaning person, and on some issues I am. On other issues I am very conservative. If I were forced to "label" myself politically, I guess I'm a fiscal conservative and a social libertarian. There are some issues i am quite right-wing on and some issues I am quite left-wing on. I don't see life as being an absolute that would allow me to stick to one political mind-set regardless of any and all actions and results.

One thing I love about where I live is that I am surrounded by friends who come from tremendously varied backgrounds, and we all seem to get along very well. Disagreeing on politics or religious beliefs doesn't mean people can't respect each other and enjoy the other's company. It's a lot like being happily married.....sometimes your friendship or relationship is best preserved by just knowing you're right and not trying to convince someone else that you are.

I agree with many things Blue Cat says, and I think the cat has a lot of interesting thoughts. I also find many things that Torog believes in as being admirable and respectable.

One thing you can't deny....Torog is honest, and will tell you what he really believes. Too many people are spineless and wishy washy to have the guts to speak their mind. Agree or disagree, I'd much rather know what a person really thinks than to be strung along never knowing which way the wind is blowing.

Thanx for your kind words as well..please don't leave..your opinion is valuable to me and others here and we enjoy debating things with you..we need all the input that we can git,so that we can figure things out..I don't like the Left/Right polarization,I just want us to all be united in stopping terrorism..I need to stop being so polarizing myself and be a part of the solution,not a part of the problem.
