If you want your buds to stay thick, use an Mh for vegging, and an Hps for flowering. Avoid using just an Hps for vegging. You get stretched out budsites that result in light, wispy, stretched out buds.

For best results though, use an Hps for flowering, but add an Mh for about 6 of the 12hrs of light. That will keep things thick, and chunky. Use CFL's or Mh bulbs for vegging. Good luck.

Was very interested to hear what you had to say nochowder,
I have been trying exactly what you descibe.I have a 400 wat hps runing 12/12 and a 1000watt mh on for 7 of those hours.
I am about 4 weeks into flower and the buds are very thick and very compact.great idea works well....
