THIS IS ONLY A TEST
Aug 8, 2005 4:00 pm US/Eastern
Government scientists released colorless, harmless gases at four midtown locations on Monday as part of an effort to find out how fast and far a chemical attack could move through a city.
"It went very well,'' said Susan Bauer, a spokeswoman for the Urban Dispersion Program, which aims to produce a computerized model of air flow patterns that could help authorities decide how to evacuate people after a bioterrorist attack.
The project started five years ago with pilot programs in Salt Lake City and Oklahoma City and came to New York City in March, tracking the path of nontoxic, odorless gases through well-traveled sections of midtown Manhattan.
While the March studies concentrated on outdoor air patterns, this month's tests will include a release inside a midtown office building, the subways and outside major landmarks to track how air moves in and out of structures.
Bauer said the gases were released Monday in one office building and at three outdoor locations _ 49th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues, Sixth Avenue between 49th and 50th streets and 44th Street just west of Seventh Avenue.
There will be five more test days over the next three weeks, depending on the weather.
One hundred eighty blue plastic ``tracer'' boxes will track the path of the gases, and a half dozen white vans will also be traveling the city collecting air samples.
The scientists will conduct a third set of tests in New York next March, and plan to complete their research by 2007.
The $10 million project is sponsored by the federal departments of homeland security, defense and energy.Breukelen advocaat Reviewed by Breukelen advocaat on . THIS IS ONLY A TEST (or IS it???) Nope it probably isn't a test. The government not harming the citizons?... hehehehehehehehehehe, like that's ever gonna happen. If you see anything that has a name of a government branch, you probably know that something's up. Conspiricy or not, they're probably doing this "test" to see how fast and effective a biological terrorist attack will be when they conduct one theirselves. It's all just for controlling the masses.
