What I do is take a pretty fat hit, but not expand my lungs to 100%. After I hold it in for a while and I need to breathe, I just suck in some more air, and that will buy me another 10+ seconds. I'd imagine the smoke is pretty much done after that.

No way, I do exactly the same. After smoking for x amount of years I realised that I wasn't expanding my lungs fully when I took a hit or a toke. I tried it, and could hold it in for much longer. Now, whenever i'm smoking a joint (on my own.. not with friends, coz it might look wierd.. lol) I do that. Take a hit, hold it in, then suck in more fresh air and expand your lungs fully. You get way more high, but my lungs always feel like shit afterwards.

Another cool trick along the same lines is to actually shotgun a hit into a chilled mug (like a beer stein that's been in the freezer), and then "drink" the smoke from the glass. Looks cool, but that's about all it has going for it.

I just love it when I take a FAT rip, hold it in for as long as possible, blow out and see no smoke whatsoever. You just know you got your money's worth.

thats how i smoke it too. but when im at my friends house we take this big pruple top hat and put it over ou faces after a rip and then just keep breathing in and out into the hat semms to wrok pretty well. oh and by the way just cause the smoke toughed the air doesnt meen that theres no thc left in it, havnt you ever gotten a contact high who ever said that thats wut happened? also the term shotgun was invented in vietnam when some one would blow smoke down the barral of a shotgun and blow into everyones faces... and im sure that they were gettin fucked up!

Depends on which end's pointing at you. I've witnessed many an "unfortunate accident" getting high.
