Dear Friends In Iraq: I am American and my daughter is in the U.S. Army. She participated in the liberation of Iraq and is now back in the U.S. She saw firsthand the poverty of the Iraqi people, compared to the grandeur of the palaces Saddam Hussein built for himself, with the money he stole from the Iraqi people. My daughter told me, as she was traveling across Iraq in an army convoy,in April of last year, she saw children lining along the road, cheering and waving. One of the little children gave her a military salute, and my daughter responded by standing at attention and returning the tribute with her most snappy, professional salute she could give. She said the children got happy and thrilled and jumped up and down with excitement. My daughter wrote a letter to me from Iraq and said she wanted me to know, that even if she were to lose her life in the process, she felt that what we were doing in Iraq, liberating Iraq, was the right thing to do. She brought me back a souvenir from Iraq: a beautiful black velvet shawl, hand painted in beautiful gold designs. She bought it from an Iraqi person who was selling it by the side of the road. I treasure it, and sometimes I hold it and pray. I pray that very soon Iraq will be peaceful and prosperous, it's people able to enjoy their lives in comfort and safety and security and freedom. Maybe even luxury. That is my wish for the Iraqi people. And God willing, it will come true.
