From what I understand, they haven't sprouted yet through soil yet right? The taproot was showing, so you just planted them, is that correct?

If so, no light is still not required until it pops through the soil. So keep your lights off for now and wait another 2-3days until you see a sprout, then put them under light. Keep the the soil moist at all times, do NOT let the soil dry out until you start seeing some sprouts. The taproot on your plant(s), they LOVE moisture and if you let the soil dry out in this stage, it might die. So keep the lights off. No point for them at the moment. Do you have drain holes in your cups? If not, you will need some or the result will be root rot.

So right now, until the plant sprouts through soil, leave the light off, keep the soil moist, not mucky, but don't let it dry out...a happy medium. When they do sprout, then let them go through a wet/dry cycle from then on.

As for lights, I suggest getting some CFL's/Floros for vegging. You have 5 plants? You will want at least 200W of CFL's. Anything less than that will result in shitty weed and shitty yeild. Even 200W is low for 5 plants. To get anything worthwhile, you will want to have at least 50W per/sq.ft. Worry about that stuff ro now, the sprouting and vegging stage. Then we'll talk about what you can use for flowering when you get to that point. Good luck.

It doesn't matter right now if there is light coming in. I was just saying there is no point in wasting your growing lights lifespan if it isn't needed.

When the seed sprouts, and moisture gets to it. The white taproot inside, swells up and continues to swell up and grow into the soil. It's a root that is showing, roots require no light. They require moisture, no light is needed then you see. The root grows down into the soil, not up, so no light is needed until it pops. Then vegging will begin and so will photosynthesis. Understand now?
