cut and root a whole plant if cut out of soil ?

im not asking about washing soil off roots NOT interested in that

im Asking something tottaly different here

is it possible to grow a plant in soil then cut it out and root it for a hydro grow
im not thinking a old plant with a big thick hard stem but freash young and soft baby stem

Is This possible ^^^^im more or less curious
