You water only when the soil is dry. Dip your finger about an inch into the soil. If it is moist underneath, don't water, if it's dry, water. Put your plant through complete wet/dry cycles. When the soil gets dry, the roots search for water, that way they grow and expand in good health. Hope this helped.
