These dogā??s noses are certified and extensive training records are kept. Thatā??s how they hold up in court.

Laws may vary from state to state on specifics Iā??m not sure. But in every State that Iā??ve been in they have to have probable cause before they search your vehicle. They canā??t just pull you out of the car and force you to open your trunk (they can search your person and immediate area for safety reasons.) They have to have a reason to believe a crime has been/is being committed. If a dog alerts on your trunk than that gives them the right to search your trunk. Their noses will hold up in court.

I suppose if they wanted to be extra careful they could use the dog to get a warrant form a judge.....but it seems a bit overkill and unnecessary.
