hey im a 1st time grower and while i have found very healthy soil and a good outdoor location i need 2 know how far down to plant my seeds. also will cicadas eat my plants?

Bend your index finger to 90% at the middle joint, push finger into soil until your palm is flat on the soil. Drop seed in hole, press soil back over seed lightly. Water. I don't know what a cicadas is.
