Greater female chances?
Hey everyone. I was reading a thread.. either on here or overgrown.com... and I read that lower light= greater chances of female (like around 17 hours of light instead of 18). I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help greaten the chances that I will have a female? Theories... anything. Let me know.

By now the sex is determined by the RNA of the plant. You just need to weight until it's ready for you to know. Or it's large enough to cut one small clone, sex the clone and the plant grow out. In 2 weeks you will know the sex

I did a test on that theory some years ago. I also heard that less light=more females, so I went out and gave it a test, here is what we did.
We germed 20seeds, all from the same pack. We decided we will put 10seeds under 18/6, and 10 seeds under 24/0. We vegged them, then turned into flowering. From the 18/6 seeds, we got 7 of 10 females, great results. For the 24/0 run, we got only 3 of 10 females.
I don't know if that helps any. I use 18/6 always, so far I'm on my 3rd female in a row(from seed). Before I was using 24/0 and I got 4 males in a row, then I switched to 18/6, now I'm getting more females than males. Peace.

Personally, I think 18/6 is best.
24/0 will stress...but no kill.
Stress = Males...... in my book.

Stress comes more from heat then light.
Germinating light cycle is 12/12 until they have the first set of leaves then switch to 18/6 for vegetation. Ed Rosenthal, Al Frank and some others claim it's the light cycle that increases the chance.

Me; I use Sensa Soak from plantastic to germinate and the 12/12 to 18/6 cycle.

Greater female chances?
I personally think that good seeds and good environnement make almost 100% female. Example 1 : i put 15 seeds of afghani and skunk x haze into soil with too much horse manure. That nealy killed the plants. I washed the roots under water to remove all the dirt and after put them into a bubbling light nute solution during 15 days, they recovered, i put them into soil again outside, and recently i killed 6 males from that batch. They suffered, they had stress, lot of males.
Example 2. I put 5 seeds of AK47 to germinate well into rockwool with good ph and EC water and 20/4 light cycle. The only male that i got was from one rockwool cube i forgot to give water during 3 or 4 days. It recovered but became male, because of stress. So take care of your seedlings and you will have nearly only females.
