If you noticed in the first season of his show, there were always underlying messages in his skits about what's wrong with this country. What he wanted to do was make the American public aware of certain problems with society such as a corrupt judicial system that needs to be publicized, homeless drug addicts, etc.

Comedy Central didn't really care for these messages and just wanted him to be funny. He did this, but he wasn't happy with the way the show was headed. So that's why he went to South Africa.

I'm sure the show will still go on. He has a $50 million contract.
