My method is to cut, trim then place them on a screen to dry in a cedar lined closet with the temperature regulated to 85f and a gentle air movement. After about 3 day's 4 max they are ready for the glass jars and curing.

The main thing you want to do is remove the larger leaves and make sure there is air flow around the buds. You do not want any mold at this point and you don't want them in light either.

Hanging is just convenient way of storing them to dry that's all. There is NO resin that will run from the main stem into the buds. Hanging is only convenient and easy. You just need to keep them from molding from too much moisture.
