A clever leader will convince people that the war they are fighting is not for the leader's personal gain, but rather for the good of the people, or in the name of whatever god they worship. Of course the rank and file, the people who aren't able to think for themselves, will be convinced that it's about religion, but it's really not, and it's quite easy to see once you wake up. Believe me, this has been true for thousands of years.

There are always innocent people that are casualties of war... When I saw videos of thousands of people in Israel celebrating the video of planes hitting the twin towers I lost all respect for muslims and the middle east. There were also stories circulating, after 9/11, of Middle Eastern people watching Manhattan from the rooftops in Jersey just before the attacks - suggesting that they knew it was coming. There were also reports of joyous celebrations.

There was another story of a (non-Muslim) kid whose father worked in the WTC being told by his (Muslim) playmate to stop his father from going to work on 9/11. This was several days, or weeks, prior to the attacks. That story was in the news, and the Middle Eastern family disappeared after the attacks, eluding the FBI.
