 My babies have gone "bunny"! whats wrongHere's where I got the tip about using them in a soil grow- http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1649

 Here's what it says on the bag-
 Hydroton: This Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate (L.E.C.A.) is manufactured exclusively at high-tech kilns in Germany and is used as a soil replacement in hydroponics. Composed of shale that is pelletized and fired, Hydroton holds water extremely well and transmits it effectively. The pellets are uniform in size and have an attractive, natural appearance. Hydroton is chemically inert, has neutral pH, is reusable, clean and odorless.

 * Expanded clay is much easier to clean. The round balls of clay have a smooth surface coating that can be cleaned of roots and bacteria.
 * Chemically inert and reusable
 * Different sizes available
 * Lighter than lava rock
 * They are more uniform in size & shape. They can be poured into containers, and they fill containers evenly.

 * The round balls do not compress to touch. The uniform space between the pebbles provides even aeration and wetting throughout, allowing roots to fully grow into the medium. The clay surface repels water, but surface tension coats each clay ball in a thin coat of water â?? perfect conditions for roots. Cracked balls absorb water like a sponge.

 * The round balls have more surface area than the flatter lava rocks, proving more area for roots to cling to.4of20 Reviewed by 4of20 on . My babies have gone "bunny"! whats wrong New Indoor grower here. Im just learning about all the ins and outs of indoor growing. Im at day 9 from seedling sprout. I have had a few problems with under-lighting, then over-lighting and heat burn (death of a few). Those that survived seem to be doing ok except for the fact that they have gone into some kind of "bunny mode" The first and second leaves are sticking straight up They are under a 4-20w/6500k CFL's (afraid to add more light as thats how I killed the others) in an organic Rating: 5

 My babies have gone "bunny"! whats wrongok thanks a lot...Goodinfo.

 I dont hydro so I didnt know.

 However....

 These balls are not suited for top and alll me to tell you why...IN MY OPINION...

 Whe watering, these balls will absorb a lot of water.

 The as these clay balls dry out, they will draw water from the soil surface, causing faster dry out times meaning more water is needed than normal.

 Also, since these rocks hold water, the lights will cause a high humidity / evaporation rate, which could be seen as steam if you looked under a microscope.

 I agree a V sign is or can be a sign of health. But, the tips are burned and the one plant isnt a V....its almost folded closed.

 I will go on record as saying...

 Remove the balls, add more air movement, water more and you will fix your problems.

 The clay balls?

 I say the they absorb water, but, when dry, this is not good for the plant and the leaves are reaching skyward to avoid the clay balls.

 Plant leaves do no like to touch ANYTHING....anything....and will either grow away from what they dont benefit from or discard what it is that is causing the discomfort.

 I stand by my advice in my original "If I Were You" post.

 Good Luck.

 My babies have gone "bunny"! whats wrongLighting to me doesn't look like the problem, but you will need more than what you have there. It may veg alright, but when flowering hits, things will grow very slow and the result will be a very low yeild. Light poisoning is just silly, I don't really follow that either. Using those CFL's as close as they are is fine, as long as you are keeping the box cool somehow. You can get as close as an inch using those bulbs. They work wonders for vegging.

 Your plant looks perfectly healthy, except I see they are a little frazzled on the tips. I hope you didn't give them any ferts yet! If so, flush that soil out bro. I don't know much about the lava rocks, but one of my friends used them for a hydro grow he did(which I know nothing of), and from my understanding, they work best in hydro, not soil. I see little to no point using them, but, that's just me. Good luck!
