My babies have gone "bunny"! whats wrong
New Indoor grower here.
Im just learning about all the ins and outs of indoor growing.
Im at day 9 from seedling sprout.
I have had a few problems with under-lighting, then over-lighting and heat burn (death of a few).
Those that survived seem to be doing ok except for the fact that they have gone into some kind of "bunny mode"
The first and second leaves are sticking straight up
They are under a 4-20w/6500k CFL's (afraid to add more light as thats how I killed the others) in an organic soil mix.
No nutes have been added yet as I believe the soil should have enough to sustain them for the first few weeks.
They will "eventually" move up to a 150w/6500k CFL for further vegging and then on to a 250w HPS for flower.
So can anyone give me some info on why they are sticking up like this?
Thanks

Help me out here....sure we can help...
1. Are the plants blowing in the wind or are they kinda almost still with little movement? I ask becuse some of these liitle fans like that wont cut it...needs to be a fairly stiff breeze....now and especially later on when they get bushy.
2. This is a soil grow? What are those potato cubes?
3. Why are they there?
4. Are they sucking up water and getting hot under the lights?
5. I tend to follow the leaves down = too much water...leaves up = not enuff. Are they getting enuff water?
Some V-shaped new leaf is a good sign....but they are alredy burning at the tips...
Finally, you NEED the additional light! You cant be afraid of it...the CFLS work but only with a lot of juice.
You should have the lights within 2" and no more than 3" away from plant top. But you have to have a manly fan that has some balls.
I suspect those potatoes might be getting warm and the leaves dont like it.
I suspect the fan is too weak to keep the air MOVING across the bulbs... (temp is ??)
I suspect they are thirsty. DOnt let the soil go completely dry.
I hope this helps.
P.S.
What is that jar thingy in the bacK?

Potato thingies are hydro clay balls.
Ive read that they are good to add to the top of the soil to aid excessive moisture loss, they also help in distribution of water (so you dont have your perilite and top dressing wash away), thay also will insulate against too much heat on the top of the soil.
Just one of the many tips I read and decided to try.
At this early stage I dont want to add too much light/heat.
Thats how the tips are burnt, from bringing the wattage up to 104.
These new babies seem to like 80w better for now.
I will be putting them under more light as they get stronger
I thought Leaves Down = not enough water, Leave Up = too much
Ive been investigating around and it seems that my problem (of the leaves curling/cupping upwards) might be moisture stress.
I am going to do some further checking to see if thats the case.
Jar thingy is a small glass vase that I have water and an airstone in.
Humidity is like 0% where I live.

Look at how big that fucking bulb is compared to your light! imagine that on a normal sized scale, like...that light would be fucking way too big for that little sprout. trust me, but i don't know anything. so meh...maybe some other people will agree. those bulbs are too close for comfort, when they get older you can put them closer but now that bulb is wayyyy too fucking big for that little sprout..imagine that sprout is a full sized pot plant and that light is the light for it.....it would be way fucking bigger than what a 1000 watt hps light would be. I doubt you'll understand what i mean cuz i dont explain it very well but try to move it further from it.

Well you asked for help and I asked some questions so now I will give you MY advice.
If I were you....I would...
1. Lose the stupid clay balls.
2. Give the babies some water.
3. Get some damn light on them. 80W isnt shit to what you need.
4. Get a fan with some balls...and get the fan on the space between the lights and tops.
Do these things and you should be ok.
As for the light poison theory, I do not beleive that.
If you want small bushes, you need lots of light.
Here are some plants I grew under almost 600W (TRUE WATTS) of CFL since they broke soil. If you have a fan to disperse the heat, you wont get heat burn.
Your grow, your call.....
Lights????? That is NOT your problem. Yet.
It will be if you dont get more.
Good Luck on your grow

when the plant doesnt get enough water they wilt. and that is down. what these are doing is reaching for the sky because they want to be big. no but really your lights are a little too close see the leaf burn on the tips? definitely a little too close for baby seedlings

First, the grow rocks are fine. They keep the light away from the soil and it will help later on. Sand will also work to do the same thing. You will need a water meter to check when the soil is dry.

You are not feeding then any nutrients yet are you? I hope not.
Watch them and everything will be fine soon. Check the Ph of the soil and make sure you use Ph adjusted RO water.
Happy growing.
