    good camping spots?

Howdy, does anyone know of some good places to camp not too far from DFW?

I'm thinking maybe an hour to an hour and half away tops. I'm looking for somewhere far enough away from a road that I won't be hearing traffic, and where I won't run into many people, preferably none. I want somewhere that lacks power, bathrooms, and all that stuff.

    Thanks for any help.

You might try looking in Oklahoma. There is a river called the Blue River just over the border. Beautiful place the last time I was there. Be careful of cops in Okieland though. They tend to like to hassle Texans.

Also, you might look at Lake Ray Roberts, north of Denton. Or even look out in East Texas. There are numerous lakes out east that have campgrounds. It's hard to tell you where you're going to be least likely of being hassled by cops if you want to smoke, but there is some really pretty scenery. It's HOT as hell right now, so I'm shying away from camping until the fall.

Do a google search on campgrounds in Texas. Maybe try Texas tourism sites and look for campgrounds that way.

    Good luck in your search!!!!

I would agree with Onward's initial suggestion. If your looking for a relatively nearby place with some topography, tall trees, and a clear lake, I would recommend Lake Murray in OK. It's just north of the state line and is an easy hour drive +/-. But beware of the Okie Smokies.

You might want to try lake of the pines, caddo lake, they both have primitive sites. Just don't drink and drive, DPS hot on dwi's. Rangers don't bother people most of the time.

Thanks for the suggestions, I might check those places out next trip, but I'm already back from this one. I heard caddo lake is good.

I camped on a family friend's land in comanche, which is north of sherman. I camped on a hill that flattened out on top. It was really great. Three days of fasting and meditation follwed by one of drinking and smoking and eating the rabbit I killed.

    Howdy gettin high,

Yup..Big Bend is very pretty and I have been there many a time, but that was back in my youth..and I wish that I could go visit again ! There's a spot, overlooking the Rio Grande, where my brother and I,got to see some mexicans crossing over at a low spot, carrying what looked like a couple bales of weed..even my old man thought so and he made us leave pretty quick,in case they spotted us. Also, the annual chilli cook-off in Terlingua,is a good thing to go to,if ya can stand the heat ! lol

    Have a good one !
