I loved Requim for a dream (albeit it's a bit depressing) and definitely American Beauty. Moving, and soooooooooooooooo deep.

i think is bull, that why we have choices and make mistakes, why people end up dead..

I think people actually die from old age and disease which they do have no choice in as their life is layed out before them only a very small minority of humans actualy take control and kill themselves. And you dont have freewill your path is set before you.
Think about this
- Every action has to have a cause.
- Humans perform actions.
- Therefore human actions all have a cause.
Every cause in retrun has to have a cause e.g wind temperature makes you stay inside. This in theory can be traced back to the dawn of time and the interactions of atoms and there reactions, thus reactions now between humans that control your destiny.

... just so you have fair warning, Wild Strawberries was done in 1957. It's a black and white film in Swedish. I had subtitles, but I wouldn't count on finding a subtitled version. The director Ingmar Bergman is a Swedish play director, and as such he uses play like film techniques. It's long and most will find it boring. If you have patience its worth while though.

Ever watch the Matrix trilogy? That's some deep shit there, with cool special effects to boot.

I also enjoyed the philosophy behind Fight Club. It's not just about beating people up, you know.

I've seen the matrix trilogy, but there is only so much of the "what is reality" that remains interesting. The first one pretty much put everything out on the table, the following two were in reality little more than special effects movies.

I know fight club is more then just fighting. However, again its a what is reality movie. Moreover its a movie that at the heart says violence is bad cooperations and money are neccessary, we don't need to be barbaric about things, sit down shut up and take what your told otherwise you will end up crazy like this guy and have a whole that you shot in your own head. It's a fun movie for action, and the first time you see it its neat to find out reality isn't what you thought it was. However, tyler in the end is the "bad guy." All along edward norton's character is the "good" and tyler is slowly taking over, but in the end good triumphs over evil. However look at what "good" is. It's a mediocre life. The message of the movie is if you stop being mediocre, people will be hurt and or die.

My dilemma is, does the initial "fun" from finding out what is isn't is and what is isn't worth the huge lack of a worthwhile theme.

A lot of foriegn films are really deep. If you can get over the subtitles and the fact that they don't have a lot of action and special effects they are definitely worthwhile. I'll definately have to check out "Wild Stawberries" soon.

There is a Chinese film called "To Live" that follows one family's extreme ups and downs. It was banned by the Chinese government since it doesn't paint a very pretty picture of one of the most embarassing times in their history. It shows that no matter how good things get something bad can be lurking around the corner and no matter how bad things seem, something good can come out of it. Just don't expect a happy ending.

Another good foriegn film is a Vietnamese film called "The Scent of Green Papaya" . There's not a lot of dialogue and what there is is Subtitled Vietnamese. The cinematography is beautiful, however, and there is a lot of symbolism in the film. It's the type of movie that will make you think instead of doing the thinking for you. A while back one of my old stoner friends was staying with me and we got really, really baked and I put it on. At first he was like "what the fuck, this sucks" but when it was over he just looked at me with his mouth hanging open "Duuuude.."

Thanks for the tips Fengzi I'll try to check those out. Hollywood has really destroyed movies as an art form and moved them into simply entertainment. I don't want to say anything NOT from hollywood is good... but I know what you mean about foreign films. I think they are a bit of an aquired taste though, so thats why I left the warning.

I really liked Requiem for a Dream. Really made you think.

Donnie Darko was cool.

I really liked Pulp Fiction, actually. The last scene (the restaurant one) was deep as fuck.

Hmm... what else.. The Matrix was pretty deep.

American Beauty was cool.
