Don't try to pull them apart. Damage to new roots will kill em fer sure. There is one way I tried to seperate plants,and that is to dig around and about 5 inches down. Remove the plug gently (water soil before digging!), use an outdoor hose with very low pressure and wash the soil away from the tap roots, then transplant. It worked 4 me. Truthfully, just let em be.
