    1000w hps sea of green

Just wondering people how high above to keep the 1000w hps light, I am going for the sea of green ,done alot of reading on the sea of green growing but never got the stats! for what kinda height is required? I know a 1000w hps can do up to 10 full mature plants at a time, with a distance of about 2 feet above the plants, but what about the sea of green? closer further away? any help would be appreciated..thank's

THe rules dont need to change because of the type of grow.

As close as you can get to the canopy without burning the plants.

No matter what light you use, follow that rule, you'll be fine.

Use fans to decrease the distance required for cool canopy operation.

Well that??s an easy question to answer.

First you need to make sure you have a glass shield and blower to move air through the hood and back out the other side.

Now you can get the light as close as you need to. Like 16? with out heat burning your plants.

Next make sure you use a remote temperature probe to monitor the temperature at the top of your canopy 24/7. They only cost 10-15 dollars. Just use a wire and insulate the probe you don??t want the wire to heat up the probe. Now you can get the light as close you need to with out fear of hurting your plants.

You want the temperature not to exceed 82° f ever. You want to keep the temperature as close to 76° f as possible over the whole 24 hour period. Monitor the swing and keep it to a minimum for stress free growing.

don't forget to open the plants allowing for light to infiltrate into the plant. Wiring the stalks open will greatly increase yields and decrease the pest problems.

..with lights on the sides. you can increase the number of plants grown in any amount of space.. can grow 20...with a 4x4 or 3x3 area.
keep constant air movement and breeze through plants, mostly the canopy
light could be 6 feet or so above to began growth..(not recomended)

I guess you did not understand the other post as well as I had hoped. Try this

How close you can place the light is really determined by the temperature at the top of your plants. 12? or less is all the same lumens so it??s 12? to 48? we have control of and the closer to the 12? mark the better because it provides the most lumens to the plant. To close and you burn the tips to far away and you give up luminance penetration (PAR). Next is Luminance loss. Most experts are in agreement that light intensity diminishes exponentially fast.

    For example:
A 1000-watt MH from 0? to 12? is about the same luminance say 140,000 lumens
Same light at 24? the luminance is now about 30000

    Still workable and not bad.

Same light at 36? the luminance is now about 1200
Fan leafs block most of the light so nothing below sees enough of the light of day to do any good.

About 16? is average if your plants get too tall just bend them over (if you bend them over the buds get more light and grow bigger). You could crop them to keep them short and bushy you crop between the 4th & 5th node early in the vegetation state for best results.

Yes but glass tubes and glass plates eiminate the usefull ultra violet dispersed from metal halides.

this may make yeild fine but will decrease potentcy.

    qantity versus quality.

    its an individual choice.

Well thanks' guys I appreciate the information,I had the 1000w hps about 18 or 19 inch's away from top of plants with a big ass fan blowing through the area were the heat would meat the canopy,I noticed a difference in the plants, more of a drying out look if you know what I am saying,so I moved the lights up at about 24 inch's and will keep checking every now and then throughout the day to see if the the drying out look changes,I was thinking that over a 2 foot distance may not be so good! for the lumens, reaching the canopy of green, but it could be me just being parnoid lol....I guess all I can do is exsperiment in hopes of finding a perfect distance both for heat and lumens.......Once again thanks for the information people
