Potting question

I had for plants in 8" pot, with about 2 inches of soil. 2 were close together. Would this have caused and bad side effects. This is my first time growing , but at 2-4 inches, there are only a few leaves, and the root is only a couple inches at most, and even half and inches on a few. Is this a problem or is everything ok, and what can i do to help, i have already put them in new pots with plenty of soil.

you did the right thing transplanting, as long as you put them in separate pots.
