when to top

i was wondering when i should top a plant i haven't grown anything yet but i have been looking for info but i still don't know when the best time to top any info would be helpful

i think that topping is recommended when the plant reaches the 4th or 5th node/set of leaves....however not all strains respond well in topping them ie Chronic (serious seeds)

yes, 4th or 5th set of leaves is the best time. i also like to tie them down at the same time to produce even more branches.

Could someone tell my what exactly is a node. I that the area where new leaves are forming. A picture would be great help.
