I was about to make a near identical post, except I was gonna call the third finger thing a hotdog finger for some reason. Could just be my lack of sleep. I also learned about the hotdog finger trick in grade school.

I was doing it in the light earlier, but now the comp screen is the only light and i did it against the blank white wall, but i am looking past my fingers and all i can see is, well... wall

you are supposed to be focusing more on the wall....but at your fingers as well...
look at the wall but keep your fingers in the same line of sight... to where the wall is more in focus and your fingers are blurred... that's the only way i can explain it.

If you see the hotdog finger it's because your fingers are too close or your eyes are crossed. Just arch your fingers together like Mr. Burns and then hold them like a foot away from your face. Then you know how when you're daydreaming you aren't really paying attention to what you're seeing? Not that you can't see, but just you're focused on mental images instead of what's in front of your eyes? It's a little like that. You look at your fingers, but try and look past them, like you're focusing on what's beyond them.

Then you start to see this white glow, right, around your fingers. Once you see it you should be able to adjust your vision so that your eyes can pick it up best. Then it will get real thick, almost like the picture, and you can move your fingers and it will move with them like a strand of bubblegum draped between your hands. If you have ideal lighting you can get all cat's cradle with it too, or make up balls. Also, if you pull out and then push it back in, the image gets bolder sort of. Zow! Zow zow ZOW!!
