I don't see why not. This is murder we're talking about. I don't care how crappy your childhood was, when you intentionally kill another human being (except in self-defense of course) you should be out of the society game for good. When you plunge a knife into somebody's chest because you want an iPod, that's not just a little mistake like shoplifting or tax fraud, it's a heinous anti-social act that deserves a punishment at least as bad as what the victim and his family had to go through.
