It's not that hard to figure out. The gray tiled area is not a horizontal floor like it initially appears, it's actually curved concavely in the middle, so that the top corner of that area stands directly over the bottom corner. And the shadows that would make it appear otherwise don't actually exist. They're painted on.

Well, the ladder and the two people working on it is actually a small cardboard cutout of an optical illusion that is being dangled between the gray tiled area and the camera on a very thin string by a helicopter.

I don't think any of it is real. I think it's all CGI.

Yeah I never even considered the possibility that it was a clever fake. Just assumed it was an edit, but it's interesting to hear the other theories.

As for illusions, I've been meaning to build one of these.

I had an old shirt like that (the stairs one), well it was my g/f's and I always wore it. OH shit now I remember. I tied it around my waste at lalapalooza(twin cities), then lost it in the pit. Waited till the whole crowd cleared that night and found it perfectly camoflouged in the dirt. Here I leave it on a fucking fire hydrent waiting to cross the street.
