But because we exist in the present we can only know what has happened, not what will happen. We use our knowledge of the past as a frame of reference of how bad things are now, but as we can't see the future and only have evidence of the past we will inevitably believe our time to be the worst. What you can't see or feel can't hurt you, right? We can only feel the now so the now is the most real to us.
