Why not use Kool tubes and no refelector?

But white if you must.

I thought it would be best to have a reflector to shine the light down on the plants. Know anywhere kool tubes are on sale at?

If you are gonna grow a trees, i would say kool tubes...

If you are growing in a closet and wanting to light a canopy top, I would use white because I think it reflects better on the 3 rebound.

I think straight up reflectivity may not be as high at say mylar, but what people fail to realize, is light continously travels until ALL energy is dissapated.

I just think white is better suited for constant bouncing because of the diffussion.

Check eBay there are a few companies selling them for 100 bucks or so.

One of the problems with reflectors is they also reflect heat! Mylar will reflect plenty of light with out heat. It's not just for growing trees dude...did you know you get more lumens from the same bulb is you hand then vertical instead of horizontal? Cool tubs let you get the most out of each bulb. The cooler temperature allows the light to be closer thus providing more lumens and light penetration then just hanging a hood over the canopy ever will and thatâ??s a FACT!

Did you say you get more lumens with light in a vertical position than horizontal?

I have done extensive research on this and find the research is saying completely differently.

From what I can recall, placing a bulb in a horizontal position will direct UP TO 30% more light on the canopy than in a vertical position.

Now mind you, I use mine in vertical cuz i am too stupoid to figure out a mounting system in my tiny space....but I have seen your pics and I know you run verticals....that certainly is preferred for those trees.

But on a horizontal grow, many light distributors advise horizontal for the increase in lumen displacement on a canopy.

Oh and I agree whole heartedly that cooler bulbs equal closer proximity to foilage....no doubt about it.

I dont use reflectors either....they can bake a plant in no time at all.

Well thenâ?¦during your extensive research you should have found there are different types of bulbs available. Universal, Horizontal and Vertical burning base bulbs each one puts out different lumens. Most hydro stores only carry the Universal because they got tired of people bring back used bulbs or complaining they burned up to quick. It gave them a bad rep so they quit carrying the better bulbs and settled on universal to save shelf space too. You can still find the best bulbs at wholesale electrical supply houses but you need to know what to ask for. They are not much help they think youâ??re lighting a warehouse floor and not plants.re = higher smell due to the transpiring to maintain a constant internal temperature.

I your not going to forego the above suggestions, and want to know which batwing to use, go with the hammertone or pebbled because it diffuses light and helps avoid hot spots.

with vertical there is a 360 degree dispersion of light from the bulb. smaller plants can be below the bulb and taller plants can be around the whole area even if you have to raise the whole pot with something. when you have a reflector you cant do that as well and have to settle for what plants you can get under the hood.
so properly done vertical I think can get more yield
