Want to Grow - Have Concerns
Hey! I'm a new member, and I'm interested in becoming a grower. I've been shopping around and studying up for a few weeks now, and I'm really jazzed to get started. I feel safe with my growing location. The one thing that is holding me back is the security issue with shipping seeds to the US. Assuming I have the package delivered to a PO Box...
How risky is this?
How is it that these packages aren't caught at customs? And are the laws against posessing the seeds (in Illinois) any different from what they are if you get caught with a bag?
Thanks very much for your input.

Hello,
Orwell - I have ordered seeds many many times and would have to say that it is overall a very safe procedure.
I would using either www.seedsdirect.to or www.seedbay.com
They are both owned by a gentleman named Gypsy Nirvana. He is a stand up person who makes sure that you get your order. You also get top quality freebie seeds with every order.
If you send in your money through the mail it should take around ten days to two weeks to get your seeds. If you use your credit card it should take around 7 - 10 days. They are highly recommended in my book.
Almost all packages sent from profesional seed banks make it to their destination. The seeds are packaged in a stealth manner that makes it very hard to detect them. They do not omit an odor of any sort so the drug dogs do not sniff them out.
The first time I ordered seeds I was very nervous. Then they arrived and I was hooked. I now have a fat collection of top notch genetics from around the world.
Anyway, hope this helps.
Take care
Peace

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it!
Do you always have your seeds delivered to a PO Box? Is it just completely careless to have them delievered to your grow location?
And just one more question: You say the seeds are undetectable to the dogs?
Thanks again!
O

Perhaps this is how they train their dogs in Sauda Arabia or how the towel head taliban does it, but, stateside, this just aint the case.
Most all dogs are trained to become calm and actually sit when they discover our illicit loot.
Without going into detail, earlier in my life, myself and DUKE, a beauty of a shepard, could find weed and cocaine when and whereever we wanted
THis was many many many years ago in the service. I have stayed in touch with many of my compatriots who still serve as we are heavy into Schutzhund competition....
This is simply not how dogs are trained, stateside to look for drugs.
It is all off the smell and the calming reaction of the dog and the ability of the handler to READ the dog.
Some dogs are trained to scratch and paw at the odor source, but those dogs are less reliable as they 'sometimes' give off too many false alarms when they smell grandmas cookies.
A dog has about 10,000,000 smell receptors in the snout tip.
It is very difficult for a good K9 team to be fooled. Very difficult.
As for shipping seeds, if the surface of the seeds are cleaned and wiped down very very well, and vacuum sealed, and not too many of them, the dog, while smelling them will NOT alert on them.
You dont want a dog that alerts on every single odor of weed, as the smell can be on clothing from smoking a joint or even in hair just by being around someone smoking weed.
Its reaction and handler interpretation.
Buying from a seed dealer who is reputable is safe.
Order small lots.....
If your package does get intercepted through random search, Customs will send you a green notice advising you of the action and inviting you reply.
But, they wont come out to your house looking for ya cuz some seeds were sent to you.
Unless of course you find a customs agent who lets you grow it then follows your posts and pics and then right before harvest........Any posts made by me are purely fictional in nature and by no means is anything I say to be taken seriously.
