    Medieval and Renaissance music

Does anybody know what kind of recorder (wind instrument) is used in playing medieval or renaissance music? I'm looking into getting one, and I need to find out which one is used for this kind of music.
    Thanks

Celtic music most often features the tin flute. Ren music is either pipes or a recorder. They play a bit similarly but have a very different sound.

Most professional authentic Renaissance performers simply call it the Renaissance flute. But it's a transverse flute like the ones we have now.
