security question
Hi everyone, new on this forum. Also new to growing. My question is about smell. I live in a duplex and the walls are a little on the thin side. But i just have nieghbors on the one side. I'll be using a hydroponic system. How bad is the smell? Does anyone else grow in an appartment or duplex? I only want to be able to grow some kind buds for personal use but is this too ambitious given my location?

Yea nice to meet you too.
The only suggestion is to invest in a filtration system. The smell can get obnoxiously strong.
It can smell just like a skunk sprayed your whole place.
But you CAN eliminate it with some work and filters.
So for your case, yes smell would be something but you could deal with it.Any posts made by me are purely fictional in nature and by no means is anything I say to be taken seriously. security question
Hello,
doomsayer - Welcome to the best hobby around!
In answer to your question on smell, alot of your "problem" can be controlled from the get-go, by choosing an appropriate strain.
Some strains (such as East Coast Sour Diesel) can have such a heavy aroma that it would be very hard to hide your plants, regardless of a carbon scrubber (air purifier) or not.
There are also strains that have a very mild aroma, such as [u]Northern Lights[/]. This strain has been recommended by many people, many times over, as the best low odor strain. It also is a very forgiving strain, that can put up with the stress that comes along with a persons first couple grows.
I do suggest purchasing a good carbon scrubber and run all of your exhaust through it. If you are still concerned with smell you can impliment the use of an ozone generator, but I strongly suggest you read up on how to safely use one in the confines of your apartment. To much exposure to ozone can be detrimental to your health.
Take care
Peace

security question
Not only can ozone be bad for your health, and can be bad for plants. I too rent an apartment for my op. I thought is was perfect because the landlord lives out of state, but turns out the handyman is a retired cop who doesn't understand the concept of calling before showing up. Talk about paranoid. Luckily my mother is an aroma-therapist and turned me on to essential oil diffusers. I use the pure unadulterated essential oil of peppermint. Its very strong, helps with sinus problems, and its a great insect repellant. I keep the diffuser in the exterior of the room, for i run a closed exhaust system through a carbon filter and am able to recycle my Co2.
Peace

Hello,
Snow Owl - You are right about the ozone, I mention it only as a guarantee for when you are in a pinch. Ample exhaust is a must when using an ozone generator.
Good idea on using essential oils to help out.
What size of carbon scrubber do you use? Do you still have odor issues after the air has been cycled through the scrubber, or is the essential oils there just to serve as "in case" measures?
Take care
Peace
