Its best not to smoke with a fresh piercing either cigarettes or weed it can slow healing or even cause an infection.I am a professional piercer and i have smoked both cigarettes and weed with all of my fresh piercings they never got infected.Im sure when you were pierced orally they advised you to gargle listerine right ? If you have good oral hygiene and gargle you should be ok.A saline solution can be made it must be made to this exact ratio its is:
1 teaspoon non-iodised salt
1 litre of cooled boiled water
Dont make it any stronger than that as it may burn the area causing it to become red and inflamed.
Zinc tablets can also be taken once or twice a day to promote healing but generally any oral piercing such as lip, tounge, labret etc will heal much faster than a regular body piercing because of saliva production. It really shouldnt take more that 2 weeks to heal but can take up to 6 weeks or more if wrong metal is used or the area is unclean.
