    Stopping is for quitters

I started smoking when I was 12 or 13(memory aint what it used to be ) For at least 15 years I smoked a lot, and I mean A LOT. Anyhow, when I was about 27-28 I had a lot going on in my life and stopped smoking weed, or doing any drugs. I also quit smoking cigarettes at that time. It was tough at first, the cigarettes were worst of all, but eventually pretty much all the cravings went away.

There was a big difference between the cigarettes and weed . After a few years I never wanted another cigarette, in fact, I hated being around them. The weed though, that was a different story. It wasn't the stereotypical druggie needing a fix type of thing. It was more thinking back on fond memories of getting stoned or looking at the lawn chair on a nice summer day and thinking "man it would be great to smoke a bowl and just kick back now." . Or seeing a big pot bust on tv and thinking how nice the plants looked and how it sucked they had gotten busted.

For more than five years I didn't take a single hit but then one day said "what the fuck". I think I had come to realize that even though I hadn't smoked anything in a long time, being a toker was still part of who I was. So now, even though I am a husband, father, and wear a tie to work everyday, I still get high. I don't smoke nearly as much as I used to, work and dealing with a two year old kind of prevent that, but I do smoke regualrly and guess I always will.

My guess is that pretty much anyone on this board will always be a smoker. I mean , if your into enough to be part of cannabis.com its part of who you are. Its not an addiction, or even a lifestyle, but an attitude that will probably stick with you for life

Amen brotha! haha Couldn't have said it better myself. I have stopped smoking for a while before... not 5 years but about 6 months. I started back up again because I realized, standing there in a suit and tie, in my little cubicle, this shit isn't me at all. A week later I had a new job (no suit, tie or cubicle). and I was at a Hempfest in Eugene. Smoking a PHAT blut listening to this great dead cover band. This was ME! Since then I've been more happy than ever. My job pays a little less, but I am ALOT happier.
