    Diabetes

Does anyone on this board have any personal experience with how smoking marijuana affects diabetes? I have not known anyone who suffered from that horrible disease who was also a smoker until just recently.

If you know of any side effects or things to beware of, please forward that to me.
    Thanks!

Well, I'm a nursing student, and I'm pretty sure there's nothing to worry at all. You should check your bloodsugar level 30 and 60 minutes after smoking; and if your bloodsugar level is high, you drink lots of water and you exercise. If your bloodsugar level is low, you eat something like chocolate or candies; and then slow-released sugar: a fruit, milk, cheese.

Only one thing to worry about: If you smoke, be careful not to have munchies; cause then, your bloodsugar level will skyrock.

    Peace,

    Nurse

Thank you for your reply and for the information. I'm extremely careful to keep cheese and other things that I can eat on hand for those times when the munchies come calling. Do you happen to know what a reasonably good target level of blood sugar is for the testing machine?

First of all, if you're stoned, don't eat unless your blood sugar level is down.

Second, the "normal" levels are from 80mg/dl to 120 mg/dl.

Third, here are some website that might help you:

    www.diabetesselfmanagement.com
    www.diabetes.org
    www.idf.org
    www.diabeteshealthonline.com
    www.ndep.nih.gov

    Hope this helps!

    Peace,
    Nurse

My best friend has diabetes and it doesn't effect him badly. He keeps insulin on hand and doesn't eat much when he does have the munchies.

Wow, that was quite a read. Kinda technical, but very informative. Thanks so much for posting it. I've saved it to my favorites to re-read tomorrow. I may try to find his book as well.

    Thanks again!

I remeber asking the same question, not to long ago. I'm a diabetic and one thing u got to remeber is all drugs effects people differently. One friday night I smoked alot and shotguned a beer and almost died. So if ur going to smoke don't try to out do any body, find ur palto. I find it can make my sugar levels high, but thats me.
    Good luck.
