soils are important but you dont have to spend alot of money. I bet your soil is not aerated enough to let the roots breathe. I would mix perlite in with it. The perlite will aid in aerating the soil and make it dry quicker. I would use a five gallon bucket with holes. Water, then let dry completely. Over watering can drag them down badly.
