NPR and other publick programs are going to be cut
Hi,
You know that email petition that keeps circulating about how Congress is slashing funding for NPR and PBS? Well, now it's actually true. (Really. Check
at the bottom if you don't believe me.)
Sign the petition telling Congress to save NPR and PBS:
http://www.moveon.org/publicbroadcasting/?t=1
A House panel has voted to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS, starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow," and other commercial-free children's
shows. If approved, this would be the most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster,
and Oscar the Grouch.
The cuts would slash 25% of the federal funding this yearâ??$100 millionâ??and end funding altogether within two years. The loss could kill beloved children's
shows like "Clifford the Big Red Dog," "Arthur," and "Postcards from Buster." Rural stations and those serving low-income communities might not survive.
Other stations would have to increase corporate sponsorships.
The next vote on the cuts will take place tomorrow (Thursday). Help us reach 400,000 signatures to be delivered to the committee members.

Thanks!
P.S. Read the Washington Post report on the threat to NPR and PBS at:

Damn, hahahahaha, that shows how much I watch tv. That's good that PBS is standing up against the Bush adminastration, I'm proud to hear that. It sucks that they are cutting the tv station down because of that, and like you Nicholasdanko, I'm fucking pissed as well. My little nephews and nieces watch Big bird and all of them, and if that's cut off, I'm going to hear lots of crying from those little kids. I wish that other tv stations would do the same, but they're filled with either conservative views and shit, or those dumb fucking reality shows.

If i had a few million i'd pick up PBS....i'd change around some gay shows though and have actual political forums and research pieces on how weed is good for you. then all your nieces can gather around the glow of television and light up....."how come big bird keeps talking even though he's not on tv anymore unca stoner....and do you have any cookies..."?

This is an effort, I believe, to privatize PBS and NPR. Republicans want to privatize everything else.
Losing PBS isn't that big a deal to me, not since the Wall Street Journal started running those ridiculous commentary pieces on the network. Though I would miss watching Jim Lehrer every night (who everyone should get their news from; no one is better or more neutral). But losing NPR would be really tough. It's the only radio I listen to.
I mean, where else can you listen to back to back stories on the war in Iraq and which city has the best barbecue? Priceless stuff.
