san pedro powder
I was wondering this. If you can powder a cactus, put the powder into gelcaps, swallow them and get a trip, could you just put the powder in water and drink it? Or even just eat the powder? I don't understand why all these complex boiling procedures are necessary. Does it have something to do with the heat that I don't know?

I don't think it has anything to do with heat, beyond getting the mescaline to dissolve. It's probably not real water soluble as the freebase, which is what any chemical found in a plant will usually be. Yea, you could just eat the cactus, but that's alot of cactus. Probably an acid/base would give you pretty pure mescaline, I don't remember the details, but I've seen one on the net. Let me do a little looking...

Well I just jammed it into 30 pills and swallowed em, so that works. Or it's starting to, anyway...
