I have come to the conclusion that he wants people to dogpile on him. It's analagous to when a child can't get positive attention, he will "act out" in order to get any type of attention, good or bad.

Or more accurately, if you don't play with your dog, or ignore him completely, he will shit on the floor intentionally.
