is this ok (harvesting)

It's about time. My plant hairs are turning brown and some of the shit around the buds. The plant is also real cristalized and very FUNKY, i can smell the chronic soon as i open the door to my home. But anyway I plan to harvest the buds that are ready and place them in a baby jair with cotton balls at the top. Will I leave the buds in the jairs for about 7 days? or how long should I?
Also want to know how should i cut the buds off because i plan on keeping the plant and re-generating it

i would dry them in brown paper bag ,,,in cool dry place
open the bag dialy to let fresh air in
and it will cure nicely
never heard about cotton balls in jars?
how does it get any air,wont it mold,?
or
may end up with some fuzzy buds,>

prefer to hang entire plant for a week in cool dry place
but brown bag it works good
