311junkie, friend.... why didn't you come to me for your answer? HID is High Intensity Discharge. It's hard to believe you found a HID bulb at the hardware store. I suppose it is possible. Although it seems more likely that it is a Halogen. Which suck, suck, suck for growing weed. Anyway, how much did the bulb cost? How many watts? What kind is it? On the off chance that it actually is a HID, you need the transformer to run it. It may technically be called the ballast. I'm not sure which term is correct. But it won't run without it, and it has to be rated for the particular amount of watts the bulb is and particular HID type (ie, MH or HPS). In other words, my 400w ballast will not run my 1000w HPS and my 1000w ballast would fry my MH. Suprised? You didn't think I was ignorant because I am a Believer did you?

Yeah you can get sodiums that fit house hold treaded light fittings but obvously they won,t work.
If you know nothing about lights buy a complete lamp .
If you try and make your own there are too many variations of ballast and bulb.
You should be carfull fucking about with electric if you don,t know what your upto.

Go to an eletrical hardwear outlet and get a HPS floodlight and put a plug on it . This is a good cheap light that will grow some nice plants .

With HPS bulbs you need the ballast, starter / igniter, capacitor and the light socket and wiring. With MH bulbs you need the ballast, capacitor and the light socket and wiring.
