    I got a male bassett hound cause I guess a lot of female hounds like to piss themselves, even if you train them against it they still get worked up and stuff. Also they're supposed to be more emotional, like howly or bitey. Mr Mellow isn't fixed and he's not a furniture-eating war machine so I at least don't see any problem with a male.

    Go to a breeding place, with a couple puppies there. Play with all of them, and talk to the owner, see what their personalities are like. Whichever one suits your needs best, get that dog. It's like buying a car, even if two people like the same car, one may like it in red, and the other in black. It's just about trying it out.

    but all animals are lovly creatures

    and get him/her from a rescue center, at least then you know your also saving the dog not just buying one.
