Technically, the results will not be the same.

You will have 4 'less concentrated' lights as opposed to 1 very concentratred light.

Depends on how many you grow.

So technically you will have 4 lights that take up 4 sq. ft. of space versus 1 light that takes up 1 sq. ft. of space.

Given the choice however, I would personally opt for the 4 lights.

I can light the bitch up from four different directions.

it takes 5 250w HPS bulbs to equal the lumens of one 1000w HPS.

1000w HPS standard bulb 140,000 lumens

250 w HPS standard bulb 28,500 lumens

28,500 x 4 = 114,000 lumens you are 26,000 lumens short so add one more 250 w HPS and you are up to 142,500 lumens. You will spend more money for equipment and power cost as well. 250w HPS will not have the penetration so they will not cover the same area like 1000w HPS would.

I still think it depends on how many plants you are growing.

If it is just one or two, I would still go with four lights. That way you can light up the sides a bit more.

On these smaller indoor grows, you can get a lot of bud on the interior branches which can get no extra light once the canopy develops.
