PurplePotatos got it right, around here ( austin, TX) sXe kids can be dangerous, although most aren't. The "real" straighedge guys are the ones with tatoos and XXX's all over them. Alot of them opnely carry weapons, butterfly knifes are popular, brass knuckles, and chains. These guy you do not want to fuck with. Here are some pictures of hardcore sxe guys.

Alot of you are really being judgemental. Sometimes straight edge kids are judgemental and are completely prejudice to people that aren't. Those people are morons.

Personally, I LOVE the straight edge concept. Don't disrespect it, it's meant to keep the kids safe.

What it is:
Don't harm yourself with hard drugs, don't let soft drugs cloud your mind, don't get sick or diseases from sex, etc. And lead a healthy life in general.

Is there anything wrong with it? No. The band who started the concept (minor threat) has even said it's okay to have a beer with your friends every once in awhile, and if you break edge, just start back on the right path.

The people who are dicks about it are called hardliners, (they do it because they're elitests).

It started in the 80s when hard drugs were taking over the DC area... and alcohol was becoming popular amongst kids and young adults. Heroin, speed, and all that were available. And of course, some people came along and said "Fuck it! We don't need it! We don't need to risk our minds and bodies for stupid shit!". So they made the pledge essentially.

And about sex, you just can't have casual sex, if you really love the person, or have been with them awhile, then it's okay.

And some people have extended their belief's into veganism, etc.

But it's basically whatever you want to make it.

It's essentially, no casual sex, no drinking to stay healthy and keep your mind right, no drugs to harm you, no bud to slow you down... etc. You can start being edge after a period of alot of drugs, you can become edge again if you mess up... etc

It's a good concept, I'll never look down on it. What's wrong with wanting to be healthy? The only problem is people got shit so twisted with the concept, that they feel like they have to be edge because it's they love the hxc scene, or because they're scared or won't be accepted if they're not. Who knows.

Yeah, but the whole concept of a straight edge band bugs me. The lifestyle does not, people have the right to make their own choices about their own bodies (can you tell I'm pro-choice? lol). But why base a bad around it? Most of the ones I know who actually call themselves straight edgers are dinks. You can be talking to them and they will bring up drugs from a conversation that had nothing to do with them just so they can argue. Most straight edge bands I've heard are whiny and yelling at other people for doing drugs.

Again, a straight edge lifestyle I have no problem with and have many straight edge friends. Just the idea of basing a band around it or being abrasive about it bugs me.

my sisters a straight edger, she dosent advertise it though, so im not at all bothered. Shes never told me not to smoke weed or drink, but i do get pissed off by the people who try and tell others what they should and shouldnt do.

forestcouch, sorry if i offended you but the ones over here do jump poeple of that being my best friend who is the hospital at the moment. Straight Edges are an extreme porblem where i live.

it's cool, it's just i hang out with some guys who are straight edge and people are always like DUDE I FUCKING HATE STRAIGHT EDGES THEY KICK YOUR ASS FOR SMOKING POT when its just not true, at least in my area. we cool my man, lets smoke a bowl
