Hey everybody. I'm planning to try growing for the first time, and I was wondering if anybody could give me any tips on timing. Should I let em sprout and grow under the floros for the first month, then switch to HPS to initiate flowering in the 5th week? If I do that, how long should it take to harvest? And is it supposed to be 12/12 light/dark during growth and 18/6 during flowering? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    wow man,

the best thing to do is.... RESEARCH.

There are so mant different ways to grow that asking on a forum will give you many different opinions.

    18/6 for veg
    12/12 for flower

I use floros for the first 2 weeks then went to my 600w horti. WHen using such a strong light make sure to distance it further away from new plants and as they get older move the light closer. A 400w should be about 12 to 18 inches away depending on heat under it.

So much man that you really just need to list all your questions and research grow guides. Read past topics in this forum, even ones that are weeks and months old.

So much advise to give but honestly I would tell every new grower to use seeds from a bag you bought from a dealer. The first grow is a practice, figure on loosing it or not getting real great results. Many mistakes maybe made and you do not want to buy $100.00 seeds to practice on. It may take 1 to 5 grows before you really get it down.

    good luck

Thanks for the tips, projecteight! Like you said, it's all about the research, and I', reading a lot online all the time these days. I just figured I'd get a bunch of opinions on the message board to help direct my research. Right now I'm trying to learn about lights.
You mentioned you use a 600W horti for flowering -- is that a kind of hps light?
I have seeds saved from my dealer, so I'm going to go with those as you suggested. I know I have a very low chance of success the first time around, but what the hell... gotta walk before you can crawl, right?

Anybody's opinion on an efficient, cheap lighting setup, please feel free to toss in your two cents. thx
