Old Republic, New Republicans - An Enquiry
Ok, I don't intend to rant. I just want to know if anyone else has noticed this:
The Star Wars series, the Force, everything having to do with Star Wars in general- is based on Buddhism (and, as a matter of fact, is a satyrical look at religious influence in government). The very central ideas behind the force (right/good being prevalent, even without compensation, violence as a last resort, meditation, commune with the natural forces, etc..) are the same, almost verbatim, as the central teachings of Buddhism. In fact, I've developed a very complicated theory about all this, relating these movies back to the US Government and such.. SO-
Has anyone else picked up on this, or am I officially a burnout?

i thought the force and jedis were based on the shaolin kung fu monks. the similarities between them is quite striking. both train in martial arts, meditation, are protectors/peacekeepers and training starts at a young age. the monks are able to do great things with their mediation, for example a spear will not pierce their skin while they are meditating, i guess this can be considered the force.
i also found the political side of star wars simply the story of how a democracy becomes a tyranny. i think of hitlers' rise to power when i think of the politics of star wars. to be honest i also think of bush but that is just me.meh.

Apparently there's anti-bushism in Episode 3, like when Padme's talking about whether they are on the right side and if the war is just a lie to disguise the truth. Anakin replies with 'your starting to sound like a seperatist'.

My friends had a smoke after we saw the movie, and we were all talking about how Buddhism and the Jedi way of life is damn near the same thing. So, no, you're not alone on that lol.
