The 3 or 4 days is just to be safe. Things happen real fast in hydro, you would notice nutrient burn with in a day or 2 in hydro.
I know local growers who run the water pumps 24 hours 7 days a week with out any issues. I would increase the watering cycle slowly, small increase every few days. Then again if it isn't broken don't fix it? Personally i like to follow all the experiments local growers do to see if they can improve the grow.

Good Growing!
KanMan Reviewed by KanMan on . quick overview of setup with a question Whats happenin y'all? alright i got about 20 ak47 plants in a 2 1/2'x5' area with 16 40 watt floros on the walls and a 600watt hps eye hortilux bulb up top with 2 6" fans on each side sitting over a flood and drain system which i have been hand watering right now due to some problems i've run into. now the plants are nice and bushy at about 7"-9" except for a few that are stunted from transplant shock i think which i keep at 500 ppm for now, they're about 2"-4" and a few got burnt from the Rating: 5
