    Pizza/food delivery question

We are thinking of starting a new restaurant and our focus is on delivery of quality sit down food to our customerā??s door. I would like to know from the people who deliver pizza as a job, how was the pay? Did they pay you for mileage and if they did what rate did they pay? Did you just need to add them to your existing policy as additional insured or did they have a policy?

Well, that depends on how many ghetto's are in the area (those rats don;t ever tip, ever) The hourly rate is usually close to minimum.

Did they pay you for mileage and if they did what rate did they pay?

That depends on the delivery area, at piza hut it is 7 miles and they pay $.50 a run... at Papa Johns it is 9 miles and they pay $1. There is no rate for actual milage, it is assumed to be like 4 miles per run.

Did you just need to add them to your existing policy as additional insured or did they have a policy?

The drivers have thier own policy, however, most companies will not insure a pizza delivery driver... so if they get in a wreck and the insurance company finds out, they may not cover it... To insure a delivery driver is very expensive, so most drivers will not do it.
Make sure you don't deliver to high risk areas for robberies, cause they won't tip anyway, and who want to risk gettign robbed for $20 of crack money?

They usually pay you like a few bucks per delivery, tips, and hourly wage. You would make good money, if your business was getting business, don't mind driving around and wasting gas, and the fact that delivery people make for easy targets in high crime areas.

thanks all I do hear you. The good thing is this area does not have that type of crime problem, very upscale area but you never know. We are still in the paper stage but are going forward.
