whats the best way to keep all light away from plants in the 12 hour dark period for flowering??

what kind of methods do yous experienced growers use??

could i just put the flower inside a cardboard box and seal it up and leave just a couple of small air holes or something for nighttime and then take it out in the morning and put it back under the light for 12 hours???
