    how did it get the name "pot"

    two homo erectus walked in a forest and one saw this weird plant. so they smoke it and boom they get pretty high. so the guy said to his friend: damn this herb is crazy, lets call this pot.

    dope also means knowladge in the RR industry.the conducter asks the hoghead ,whats the (dope) on trailer?

    You're right, only naive people use the word dope in its derogatory context. Parents, tachers and cops seem to love this word and like (i think it was) Dick Justice said they give you all that bullshit that it makes you dopey.

    I always thought dope meant a drug which is a sedative and makes you 'dopey'.
    You mainly hear cannabis being refered to as dope but I've heard heroin called dope before too.

    In my area people call hash pot and/or weed. They call skunk either skunk or weed.
