sorry, guess its different from wherever your at, but in my area uk call it pot seriously and you wont be taken serious.. maybe more of an american word

The word "pot" (meaning cannabis) was introduced to the English language sometime in the 1930s. It was probably a shortened version of the Mexican slang word potiguaya, meaning cannabis leaves. The word "reefer" also comes from a Mexican slang word for weed, grifa.

My favorite has to be when the DARE guys used to come in 5th-7th grade and ask us "why do you think they call it 'dope?'" Maybe because police INVENTED the terminology of "dope," fucking tools.
